DIY Skincare for Your Babies

Baby skin is more sensitive, and that is why it is pretty often challenging for new parents to identify the right baby care products such as baby rashes cream, baby shampoo or baby body cream. They struggle to understand which choice will be safe and gentle for their little angel. Hence, at some point, many even consider making products on their own. You find it eco-friendly as well as safe and gentle for the tender skin of your baby. In this blog, we will be exploring a few DIY skin care for babies.

Baby Bath Powder

The homemade baby bath powder will keep your baby’s skin flawless and away from any chemical reactions or allergies. Let us see how this baby care product can be prepared at home.

You would need rice, green gram, turmeric, rose petals, multani mitti (Fuller’s earth), chana dal, and betel, fenugreek and neem leaves. Start by grinding chana dal, green gram, and rice as finely as possible.

Then, separately grind turmeric and dry Multani mitti, along with rose petals and neem leaves, into a fine powder. Remember to sun dry these petals and leaves until there are no traces of moisture left. Now grind them well to make a powder. Mix this with the first powder comprising dals and rice, mix well and store it in an airtight container. The bath powder for your baby is ready to be used for gentle yet effective cleansing and removal of dead skin cells.

Homemade Wipe Solution

Whether you use cloth diapers or disposable ones, it’s important to keep your baby’s intimate parts clean and dry. A homemade wipe solution is perfect for this task, and what’s more, it is easy to make and composed of skin-friendly, all-natural ingredients. To make this moisturizing wipe solution, you’ll need one cup of sterile water, 1 tsp olive oil, and 1 tsp pure aloe vera. Just mix the ingredients and pour the mixture into a squeeze bottle for ease-of-use. Use it to wipe your baby’s bottom as often as needed.

Diaper Rash Cream

Homemade baby rashes cream is a better alternative to the ones available in the market and works as an effective solution to create a barrier that protects your baby’s skin from bacterial growth and nasty rashes. To make diaper rash cream from scratch, you’ll need coconut butter, coconut oil, zinc oxide powder, calendula and chamomile flowers.

Place coconut oil in a double boiler – which means instead of placing it directly on heat you keep in a dish that’s placed inside a pan of boiling water – add calendula and chamomile flowers to it and let the mixture simmer for about an hour. You will feel the aroma coming out of it soon. Take the flowers out and strain the solution. Now, add coconut butter and zinc oxide powder and mix till you get a creamy texture and consistency. Store it in a glass jar and use just like you would a store-bought cream.

Wrap up

While there are many baby care products available in the market, being able to make DIY skincare products for your little one can feel like a safer choice to many parents. The awareness of what you’re using on your baby’s gentle skin can be reassuring. Above all, you can protect their tender skin from irritation, rashes, allergies. If you feel that DIY is the right way to go, you can always start with something simple like baby rashes cream or wipe solution, and then graduate to more complex formulations. Happy parenting!
